Maths in Key Stage 1

At Bothal Primary School, we follow the ‘Inspire Maths’ approach to teaching mathematics in
Key Stage 1. The programme follows a concrete – pictorial – abstract approach which
ensures deep understanding of mathematical concepts during individual lessons and over
time. Inspire maths lessons promote discussion and exploration, with a strong emphasis on
mathematical language and reasoning.

We teach from the 2014 National Curriculum. In order to improve outcomes for our pupils we have compiled a set of non negotiables for each year group.

These do not reflect the full national curriculum we teach but are the key skills we feel children need to have grasped thoroughly in order to be able to access the next year’s learning.

Please use the links below to find out what the content of the National curriculum  is for each year group with the non-negotiable highlighted.
